Los Alamos Early Childhood Collaboration Coordinator

This is a part-time hourly grant-funded position with current funding for 6 months

$30/hour

Hours:
15-20 hours per week with local travel required.

Position Overview:

The Los Alamos Early Childhood Collaboration (LAECC) is a new program of Family Strengths Network and an established community professional and family stakeholder collaboration that is invested in supporting families who are prenatal and parenting children ages 0-5 years old. LAECC’s mission is to enhance the healthy development of families in Los Alamos County by connecting them to existing services, identifying unmet needs, and creating pathways to address them. We promote family leadership, empowering families to guide their own well-being while fostering collaboration across local organizations and regional resources to build a stronger, more connected community. 

LAECC is seeking a Coordinator to focus on outreach, communication, coordination, and collaboration with organizations, entities, and individuals promoting the well-being of children prenatal through age 5 and their caretakers. The LAECC Coordinator is an employee of Family Strengths Network and liaises with FSN and the State of New Mexico’s Early Childhood Education and Care Department. The Coordinator is responsible for meeting the deliverables and objectives of the grant and contract with ECECD and supporting the initiatives and programming of the LAECC. Coordination requires active solicitation, listening to and elevating community voices, data collection, and data interpretation to identify challenges for local families. Collaborating and building partnerships with local statewide resources to support families and leveraging these resources to enhance services and opportunities for families is expected. The Coordinator will work directly with the State of New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) to fulfill a professional services contract that includes compliance with an annual scope of work. This is a grant funded position.

Primary Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the LAECC Coordinator are subject to change based on grant requirements and community needs.

  • Convene and facilitate LAECC meetings (11 per year);

    • Produce and disseminate an agenda a week in advance

    • Provide meeting notes or a summary of what was discussed and action items within a week of the meeting

  • LAECC event planning, execution, and facilitation:

    • Biannual Clothing & Small Item Swap (25 hours of event time, plus preparation and followup time, two times a year)

    • Speaker Series (approximately monthly)

    • Infant Mental Health and trauma-responsive trainings (approximately two times a year)

    • Family Resource Fair (one time per year)

    • Other events as desired and supporting LAECC’s strategic plan;

  • Support the search and application to funding sources to support LAECC personnel and work;

  • Support the development and delivery of current and future LAECC-sponsored programs and initiatives, such as:

    • Birth Talk Los Alamos

    • Childbirth education classes

    • Early intervention fairs

  • Develop an inclusive “round table” of local early childhood care and education providers representing private and public sectors serving children ages 0 through 5 years old that will report to LAECC monthly;

  • Collect, track, and provide data reports to ECECD on their schedule and at least annually to LAECC;

  • In partnership with ECECD and coaches from UNM’s Family Development Program, ensure that required contract deliverables are completed and documented;

  • Manage or monitor LAECC’s operating budget with support from FSN’s Executive and Assistant Directors;

  • In partnership with LAECC, update the Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027, the Family Leadership Plan 2024-2027, and create Innovation Teams (formerly known as Work Groups) to identify and develop responses to areas of community need across the county’s early childhood sector;

  • Participate in training opportunities to increase an understanding of current and changing early childhood services, mental and developmental health, and education strategies;

  • Attend required ECECD meetings, office hours, coordinator reflection sessions, and convenings that may require travel and overnight stays;

  • Attend community meetings that are in alignment with LAECC’s Strategic Plan goals and initiatives;

  • Engage in local and state advocacy efforts that align with the LAECC Strategic and Family Leadership Plans;

  • Engage in outreach activities to support an increase community awareness of early childhood services available in and near Los Alamos County;

  • Work directly with families and community stakeholders to bridge gaps in services and knowledge;

  • Work diplomatically with county officials, organizations leaders, and family leaders to organize local events and maintain working relationships to ensure their participation;

  • Maintain coalition office and storage spaces, inventory and resource materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to build personal and collaborative relationships;

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • A strong desire to build bridges and make connections between community members impacted by the early childhood realm;

  • An understanding of Los Alamos County’s early childhood ecosystem, or having an open mind and heart with a willingness to learn and support it;

  • Capacity to facilitate all LAECC-sponsored events and LAECC outreach events.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Data collection, interpretation, and presentation experience;

  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Google Workspace, Apple software, Microsoft Office, Canva, and Padlet;

  • Event planning skills and experience;

  • Understanding of social determinants of health and adverse childhood experiences;

  • Understanding of maternal and neonatal determinants of health and the health care ecosystem surrounding them;

  • Understanding of the importance of the availability and quality of early childhood education and care;

  • Grant writing and management experience;

  • Reliable transportation; and

  • Personal cell phone that can be used for work activities.

Family Resource Center Aide

Pay:
$20/hour

Hours:
2-3 shifts per week, with occasional sub work. Shifts will be 8:45 AM until between 1:15 and 3:15 PM, depending on day of the week.

Staff meetings are Wednesdays from 12:30-2:00 PM.

Job Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Family Resource Center Aide are:

  • To maintain a safe, welcoming, environment in the center

  • To assist with coordination of resource center programs

  • To share knowledge about local resources with individuals and community

  • To manage and maintain the resource library

  • To assist in event planning and organization

Primary Responsibilities 

Act as Receptionist and Interact with Visitors 

  • Greet visitors and facilitate signing-in using database

  • Process new visitors

  • Facilitate registration process

    • Assist in 

      • Registering new families

      • Creating scan cards

  • Provide a tour of the facility

  • Answer phones, retrieve messages

  • Review and sort mail

Manage Physical Operation of the Center

  • Assist visitors in checking books and toys in and out from the libraries

  • Help clean and put away returned toys

  • Manage Beth Ladino’s Family Resource Library

    • Process new books

  • Maintain and update bulletin boards

  • Maintain Community Binder

  • Maintain paper resources

  • Prepare monthly calendar

  • Post signs notifying visitors when the Center will be closed

  • Clean and organize play area toys

  • Empty trash when needed

  • Vacuum when needed

  • Keep Center tidy, including kitchen & bathroom areas

  • Open and Close building daily

Center Database

  • Understand and apply Cogran basics

    • Check books and toys in/out

    • Navigate Cogran back end and run simple reports

Set-up for On-Site Classes, Events, and Programs

  • Set-up physical space 

  • Purchase and prepare refreshments 

  • Partner with Administrative Assistant to ensure programs are planned and executed

Assist with Special Events and Programs

  • Be available to help staff

  • Organize supplies

  • Assist in preparing for events

Provide Administrative Support 

  • Copy and count flyers for distribution 

  • Ensure volunteers sign the Volunteer Log

  • Log in donations (monetary and in-kind)

  • Provide donation receipts

  • Assist Executive Director/Assistant Director as needed
