Safe Haven Los Alamos is a new coalition which provides a supervised, neutral place to transfer children between divorced parents. During the transfer between parents, children are at risk of being exposed to conflict. Exchanges will take place at the Unitarian Church; parents will have no contact with each other.
Safe Haven Coalition members include FSN; Joyce Nickols; Ellen Morris of Self Help, Inc.; Laura Johnstone; Carlotta McInteer, Attorney; and Pam Risley, Family Therapist.
SHLA would like to thank: the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and Bethlehem Lutheran Church for financial assistance, the Unitarian Church for providing space and volunteers, and Ginny Melvin and Los Alamos Jewish Center for providing volunteers. SHLA is modeled after Children First, which operates a similar program in Santa Fe, and is a member of the Children's Rights Council. We are operated entirely by volunteers.
Services will begin in October, 2007. If you would like to take advantage of this service, or you would like to volunteer, please call Safe Haven at (505) 310-2519.
